History of the Mill

Ziarno Mill in Zablocie was built in 1919, close to the Vistula river and the centre of the Old Town of Krakow. In the next decade three floors were added to the building and later on  a modern bakery, a weighing bridge, an outlet and offices were built. In 1940 the fourth floor was added as well as new silos and a new production line. Afer World War II the Mill was taken over by the state company. In the mid 50s the additional floors were built and a new silo added. Ziarno Mill operated under the name "Polish Manufacture of the Bread of Life and Roller Mill" until 2002 when operations ceased.

Lofts in the Mill development project

The challenge to the architect and developer was to create contemporary living spaces in an architecturally significant former industrial building, incorporating those features that remained and which told something of the history of this splendid building.

The result is 57 spacious loft style apartments, half being over 100 sqm, all finished to a very high standard inspired by the developer's experience of loft developments in London.

Thanks to the unique construction of the Mill, and the sympathetic development of the scheme, the new interiors will have their own, very special style. Structural elements such as existing pillars, ceilings, posts and spiral wooden shafts remain but there is always the opportunity for each owner to individualise their Loft. It is possible to combine the apartments
to have even more space - depending on the needs of particular clients.
